As an undergraduate, I hardly copy notes. I hardly buy textbooks and I hardly sat down to read for more than 1 hour, except it’s a novel.
Though I hardly missed classes. I was always early to lectures and sat in the second row seat. That was it.
Exam periods, I do not read because there were neither notes nor textbooks for me to read after all.
Moreover, I spent most of the time preparing for my radio programs and doing my computer center business.
On exam day, I will always have something to write.
When results come out, I almost always pass.
I wasn’t a straight A student, but I never wrote any carryover and graduated with above 4.0 CGPA.
Then I had friends who needed to attend lectures, read 4 hours a day. Take notes in class, make their own notes from the textbooks, study very hard for exams.
Guess what, during exams, they knew what to write too and they made As and Bs too.
Most of them never wrote any carryover too, and graduated with above 4.0 CGPA.
In fact, one of them graduated with a first class.
Then also, there were some who studied hard, took notes, bought textbooks, and added omokirikiri to the hustle, but still couldn’t graduate with our set. They had to do extra year.
There were others who hardly attended lectures, hardly bought text books and hardly read.
During exam period, they got serious, read for hours, wrote and passed. Some got second class upper and lower.
Remembering how it all played out, made it clear to me that most times, we are on our separate parts, and what worked for A might not work for B.
The way your blessings will come is likely going to be different from the way another person’s blessing will come.
Some have to hustle till day break before they make money, and when they do, they make good money. Some will hustle and hustle and hustle and still make nothing.
Some will just be living their soft life and good things will start locating them.
This is why it’s very important not to compare or compete with anyone.
I never felt useless in the midst of my friends because they were studious and had properly organized students life, while I used 20 leaves for 11 courses in a semester and it was still scanty, the few pages occupied were filled with poems.
They didn’t also feel cheated that after all said and done, I still got almost the same result with them.
Rather, we understand that we were unique and built different.
I think we should take the same approach to life and understand how life works for us.
Some communities have to trek a kilometer to find water, other communities have to raise up their foundations 5 feet high to avoid flooding because water is too close.
Some will work seriously hard to make it, some will work mildly, some won’t even work much. Some will make it in business, some will make it in banking, some will make it in the Academia, some in tech, others in entertainment.
The important thing is for everyone to do what works for him or her, so at the end, he can make his own As and Bs.
There’s no one size fits it all. Stop making others feel like they’re in the wrong profession or like they are not doing enough or like they are not doing it the right way. Allow them.
That it worked for you doesn’t mean it will work for others.
