IS MAN REALLY INSATIABLE IN NATURE?

I don’t believe that man is insatiable in nature.

Contrary to the things we were taught in School. I believe that it’s the universe that always offer us more, pushing us to desire the more it has offered.

In this my study, I am beginning to understand that it’s not really humans that are insatiable.

The universe we found ourselves in is limitless. It has no beginning or end. So there will always be more.

It is this more that put humans in a situation where they have to seek for more.

My postulation is that humans seek for more because they know there is more. But if there’s no more, they wouldn’t ask for more.

Just like in the case of making choices.

We get to make choices because there are alternatives. So you struggle to pick the best and if you pick the best, you will see something that lacks and you want more.

For instance, most of us didn’t have any choice while growing up. We were given a name, we took it, we were given a religion and denomination, we took it. Certain types of clothes were bought for us and we had to take them.

Worst of all, we didn’t choose our parents. We didn’t choose our siblings, we didn’t choose our hometown and how we look.

Some will shout “Proudly Igbo!”, as if they had a choice.

In my first radio interview with SuperSam, I told him that I found myself here and I have to make the best of it. He said that means I never wanted to be here and I told him that no one gave me any choice.

You might not be really proudly Igbo. You just had no choice. Given the choice, some of you would have wanted to be born in London, New York, Germany, Holland, Canada, etc. Ọnọdụ unu bụ afụghị ka emere, emee ka afụrụ. Some of you with your proudly Igbo, if you see Japa opportunity, you won’t come back to Nigeria ever again.

The desire to leave Nigeria now was necessitated by the availability of traveling abroad.

Most people brag about having the mother or father in the world. They truly believe it because, well they can’t change it. They had no choice.

If given the chance to choose, some people will definitely choose to be born by these Arab Princes than by their current parents. Team “I have the best brother in the world” would have choosen to have Messi or Ronaldo or Neymar or Chris Brown as their brothers. No be true?

Therefore, the insatiability of man is a direct result of 2 things: *ABUNDANCE* and *CHOICE*

When things are in abundance, you want more. When you are given a chance to choose, you are never satisfied with anyone you chose.

Just like Oliver Twist. He asked for more because he saw that there was more food in that big pot. You can’t blame him. If there wasn’t more, he wouldn’t ask for more.

So, how do we satisfy human needs?

The solution I am considering might sound cruel, however, if you have another, you can help me with it.

The solution I have is that man should be given the things he need. Then choice and abundance should be taken away.

Men will accept what they were given, love and cherish them, the way they accepted their parents and siblings. Chikina.

It’s cruel, but countries like North Korea are doing it.

There is freedom of choice in Japan but there’s no freedom of choice in North Korea, but people in Japan commit suicide x10 more than people in North Korea.

Showing that they are actually happy.

When there’s nothing more, people will settle and be glad with what they have, but when there’s more, people will always want more, and most times happiness eludes them.
