“…Ike, my roommate whom I was squatting with had spent that night in someone else’s room, hoping that I would have an exciting night.
He didn’t know that his sacrifices were in vain as I tried to hit two birds with one stone and missed both, and now, the two birds are about to clash on my head.
I prayed that Ike would show up so I will have an excuse to go back to the room, so that Damzy can go alone and I would meet Amaka later, but it seems I have ran out of luck or maybe luck ran out of me, or both.
After decreasing my pace and pandering about, I later reached the gate, there was Amaka, smartly dressed, but for someone as sexy as as her, no smart dresses can cover her endowments.
There was anxiety in my voice and I was almost stammering, not knowing the exact thing to say to Amaka nor how to introduce her to Damzy. I wished the ground would open and swallow me. For where?
For the next 30 seconds, it was uneasiness and then it seemed everyone had decoded what might be happening and chosen not to talk about it.
So I started asking Amaka the lectures we have for the day as a way of picking a rather neutral topic.
But that neutral topic was not really neutral as it didn’t include Damzy who then felt alienated, so the uneasiness continued as we braved the rocky roads of Hilltop into school.
Things became clearer to Amaka when Damzy diverted towards the hostel instead of going to class.
Amaka stood still, holding her books tight onto her navel and stared at me for a few seconds before muttering “hmmmm”, and then continued to Class.
There was loud silence as we entered the class.
Dr. Okoro that fixed lectures for 8:00 am didn’t show up.
It made it even worse for the awkwardness between me and and Amaka. We would try to avoid each other’s eyes but occasionally, our eyes would meet and we would quickly change direction.
Another lecturer later entered by 10:00am, but concentration was far from us as the uneasiness continued.
Those moments of total distraction would later prove costly weeks later when exams came.
For the meantime, I had to find ways to save myself from the situation I put myself into.
How would I break the ice between me and Amaka and how would I straighten things out with Damzy?
We will find out in the next episode.
