ONE YEAR OF HARD LABOUR WITH MONTHLY ALLOWANCE

“…Mma and I resolved never to go back to OBS to avoid bringing trouble upon ourselves, should Mma try to turn down Mr. Gbenga’s advances.

We went instead to the kitchen where we were welcomed with open arms.

Why won’t they welcome us when all we were going to do was work work work. Though it was beneficial to us.

At least we learnt different ways that different tribes across Nigeria prepared their own meal. Plus we had our fill whenever we wanted and didn’t have to spend much at the mammy market.

Working at the kitchen also made us to be close to the camp officials. It wasn’t difficult for most of them to decode that we were dating and they always teased us about winning the 1 million naira price meant to be given to two Corp members that got married during their service year.

With Mma by my side and then the gentle Musa as my bunk mate, my Camp experience was sweet and proved to be exactly what I needed to heal from the Amaka induced heart break.

Three weeks came and passed like a snap of fingers and the new gist was about relocation.

I had already planned myself for that relocation by buying Doctor’s report from that nurse.

Unfortunately, Mma didn’t prepare for any relocation as she had already planned to stay with her uncle, the Toyota Corolla guy. I later convinced her to come with me.

We both applied, but since she didn’t have any Doctor’s report or any other meaningful reason, her’s was declined.

I was then posted to Anambra.

It was a sad day for us, and many others who had built intimate bonds inside the camp.

We both left the camp and lodged for 2 days before I headed back to the East.

We vowed to ensure that nothing comes in between us. We made arrangements to spend some time together, at least once a month. After all, one year isn’t that much and we can be together and start a new life.

Otilo.

That was how our one year of hard Labour with monthly Allowance began…
