MY ONE IN TOWN WEDDING WITH MMA

…My wedding with Mma was one in town. The Traditional, Church and Court weddings were the talk of the town for months.

Members of Nduka Obi’s Ministry filled everywhere to the brim. His rich friends and wealthy influential spiritual sons and daughters attended the wedding.

Money was raining like it was some Kanayo O. Kanayo occultic movies. Celebrities and News channels were everywhere.

It was arguably the biggest wedding ever witnessed in Mma’s Village. The decoration was out of this world. Where Mma and I sat was more beautiful that than the Palace of the King of Morocco and England joined together.

The only thing that didn’t fit in perfectly well was my malnourished body hanging like a skeleton inside the expensive agbada that they sew for me.

Mma in her height, her upper Chambers endowment, her beautiful spotless face and charming smile, made the whole decorations look like a child’s play because all eyes were on her.

Her appearance made me remember one Nsukka adage that people use when something more enticing diverts people’s attention; “anyị ayar’ anyịnya kirig’de nwa Ukwueze”.

Indeed, celebrities were there but even the celebrities marveled and Mma’s beauty. I am sure that in their small perverse minds, they would be wondering how a church servant like me managed to win such goddess of beauty.

The truth is that me too, I can’t explain, but from that moment we met at Peace Park on our way to NYSC Orientation Camp, there was this spark between us that was more divine than human. We were in love even before we spoke to each other.

Considering the glitz and glamour of the wedding, one would have assumed that Mma’s parents would be excited but far from it. They only gave out what Igbo people call “ọchị eze”. A laughter that ends at the teeth.

What happened was that after Mma called me that day to tell me of the suitors coming for her and the pressure on her shoulders to marry one of them, I called Evangelist Nduka Obi to narrate my ordeal.

He proclaimed that God will never be put to shame and that I will marry in the grandest way possible.

My wedding became a church project. WhatsApp group was created and people in diaspora donated millions to that effect.

The day we went for introduction ceremony, Evangelist Nduka Obi accompanied me with five exotic cars.

Her parents didn’t agree immediately but After some rounds of preaching and a little bit emotional blackmail from Nduka Obi, they agreed, and a date was fixed.

That was why they were unhappy, but who cares? Mma is now legally, traditionally and Religiously mine.

As the buzz of the wedding was dying down, the reality of a new family life was dawning on us.

It started with the need to move out of the church apartment as I couldn’t share a room with other church workers while my wife was there. The real ije nwoke was about to start!
