“…It’s a known fact that most Nigerians are fantastically corrupt, starting from the president down to the wretched artisan at the market. Only very few exceptions.
It has also remained a debate whether Nigerians are corrupt due to the situation they found themselves in or that they found themselves in this situation because they’re corrupt.
On my case, it’s difficult to say, because after what happened to me in the case of MBA FOREX and other Ponzi schemes, I called myself and said, Duke, you must never get yourself involved in any sharp practices.
How have I kept to that?
At the bar where Chukwuma and I worked, we ensured we maintained absolute honesty in dealing with both the customers and the management, such that in just 3 months, we became almost everyone’s favourite attendant.
However, the rat race of having nothing to show for the work that we are doing, gave us some serious cause to worry, such that we had to start seeking the help and support of other staff members.
We started asking them how they manage to survive with the Same salary, yet they’re looking all fresh and fantabulous.
They first had to put us through unsuspecting tests to be sure that we weren’t spies sent by the management to investigate them.
When they confirmed that no one sent us, they started giving us O.T how things happen there.
It’s a simple trick according to them. If the customer demands for 5 bottles, write down that they demanded for 3 bottles. When they pay you, pay the amount of 3 bottles into the organization’s account. Then go and buy same drink at wholesale price from the direct dealers, and peacefully replace them in the fridge at night, then claim it’s the ones the customers did not drink.
That way, when the bar makes profit from selling 3 bottles, you make profit from selling 2 bottles, while the bar pays for rent, electricity, properties, advertisment and promotions, salaries, you pay nothing, rather you are paid salary for making “cool” profit.
My mouth was wide open as they explained all these.
Then they explained other tactics such as inflating the bills when the customers are drunk, increasing prices of drinks and other items when a male customer comes with a woman he wants to impress and buying your own stock to serve people on busy days like Valentine’s Day, Christmas, etc.
No wonder why many seemingly booming businesses and shutting down!
Isn’t Nigeria one funny place? The rich are dealing with the poor and the poor are dealing with the rich. What a country? 🤦
