ENUGU COMMISSIONERS LIST AND THE HYPOCRISY WITHIN US

ENUGU COMMISSIONERS LIST AND THE HYPOCRISY WITHIN US

The Governor of Enugu State, Barr. Peter Mba recently sent a list of nominees for the Post of Commissioners to Enugu State House of Assembly as stipulated by the Constitution.

The list has generated lots of reactions, mostly because the children of two prominent politicians; Sullivan Chime and Ike Ekweremmadu were in the list.

Some have condemned the two young people, saying that it’s unfair to include the Children of the prominent men in the list, as against children of ordinary people, not minding that most people on the list are actually children of ordinary people that have distinguished themselves in their various fields, but they chose to pick out those two from prominent families.

While I am only concerned about the competence of the 15 people on the list and how they can effectively deliver on their mandates, I am also concerned about how deeply we have soaked ourselves in hypocrisy.

Barely a year ago, Senator Ike Ekweremmadu lost his freedom in an attempt to save his child’s life. All mouths lampooned him, especially for the alleged bleaching they suspected to be the cause of the health challenge.

Many declared that he didn’t raise his children well and they have finally put him in trouble.

One year later and a child of the same man was qualified to be a Commissioner, instead of praising Ekweremmadu in the same manner with which they attacked him, they are now shouting that it’s unjust for the young man to get the position he duly qualified for.

The hypocrisy stinks further when you realize that it’s the same people that shout that political appointment is not a poverty alleviation program, it’s still them that want appointment to be given to poor people so that wealth will not remain in the same place. Ekwu ọzọ eme ọzọ.

The bigger HYPOCRISY is that all those making the comments did or are doing or will do the same thing if they were the ones in question.

Most of them seamlessly replaced their parents in Civil Service. If given the opportunity to become Governors, most of them will want their sons to succeed them.

As a matter of fact, most of them are angry with Ugwuanyi and Mba because Ugwuanyi didn’t do the same thing by handing over to his Cousin, Chijioke Edeoga.

I plead to ndị Enugu, that we may not cause unnecessary political tension with this hypocrisy, rather for us to reserve our strength and demand quality performance from all the nominees.
