FIRST DAY IN CLASS

“…My trouble in school started when I found out that Statistics is a major course in the Psychology Department.

I thought Psychology was all about reading and predicting people’s behaviours. Do I need mean deviation, variance and standard deviation to do that?

How will I predict what Damzy is thinking using measures of central tendency and measures of dispersion? I wondered.

So when Dr. Okoro wrote Psy 141 on the white board and started speaking in Greek, I was dumbfounded. Greek, yes Greek. That’s what Maths sounded like me.

In that instant, I wished I got admission into social work with Damzy the previous year. Immediately, my mind moved away from the class. I wondered what Damzy must be doing now.

Is she with Jeff in his office? If she’s there, what are they doing? Is she hugging him? Have they ever kissed? Does she usually sit on his laps?

I wondered. What if she was in class. Is there any of those stupid boys touching her anyhow? Is any lecturer eyeing her? I just hope my Damzy was safe from the wicked eyes of these evil men trying to snatch her away from me.

My mind was still wandering when a very soft hand touched my hand, rudely bringing back my mind to the real world.

I looked at her, I could see her lips were moving, revealing a set of very tiny shiny white teeth. I didn’t hear a thing she said.

All I heard was, “did you hear me?” That was when I wheeled life back into my hearing.

It was then that I realized that Dr. Okoro had left and the class was scanty.

“My name is Amaka, I saw how you looked so absent minded. Hope everything is fine?” She asked

“Yes, there’s no problem, I answered”. “If you say so then”. She said and turned around to leave.

It was then that I saw the proper fraction exhibited I’m her body.

The numerator was average in size, while the denominator was extra large. The type that everyone must turn around to view the second time if she passes. Whether you are male or female.

I was still looking at the direction that Amaka followed when my phone rang and it was Damzy.

What did she tell me?

Let’s find out in the next episode.
