“… Nearly 2 days with Mma inside the bus going to Gombe made us bond so well that one would think we’ve been love birds for ages.
We ate together whenever the bus stopped for us to eat, watched comedy skits together, listened to music together, and she would often rest her head on my lapse and shoulder.
It was why I was shocked when a car pulled up at the park and she entered, leaving me to spend the night at the park.
Althrough the night, I couldn’t get a minute of sleep. I didn’t know if it was because of how Mma left me abruptly or the mosquitoes or the annoying loud music being played by the Hausa security men at the park or the fear that if I slept, my items could be stolen.
It took forever for day to break.
When it finally did, I asked the security man of how to get a vehicle to Amada Orientation Camp. He showed me the bike to enter, and off I went.
At park, I entered the taxi to the camp. It took a while to get filled up. So I went out to look for something to eat. Luckily for me, I saw someone selling rice and beans. I ate to my satisfaction.
On coming back to the taxi, Mma was seated right there. I frowned immediately.
She was smiling and trying to talk to me. I pretended not to see her and went to sit down on my seat.
It wasn’t long before the last passenger came and we left for Amada. I couldn’t let a word out until we got to the orientation camp.
At the entrance, they took time to check us to ensure we had all the credentials. Then we were admitted.
As a guy, I wasn’t carrying much load, just a back pack and one bucket which contained a few other things like soap et al.
On her end, she had a large traveling bag, a big hand bag, bucket, backpack and a small traveling bag.
And it’s a long walk from the entrance to the hostel area.
That was when Mma asked me if I would not help her?
I told her to go and get the guy with Toyota Corolla to help her.
She asked me if that was why I was keeping malice. I left her there and continued walking down to the hostel area where they registered me and assigned me a hostel.
And so my service year began!
