“…Ejike was a phone dealer at Ogige market, Nsukka.
A graduate of Industrial Chemistry, whom, like most Nigerians, finished school second class upper division, yet couldn’t land a good job.
He learnt how to repair phones and was good at what he does.
When his parents discovered that there were great prospects in the area he has chosen, they sold a family land which was enough for him to rent 4 shops and stock them with all varieties of mobile phones.
He also had young men who worked for him and also sold phone spare parts like mouth piece, screen, charging points, etc.
From that, he was able to build a good functional business which became known as Ejyke Communications.
He was tall, huge and fair with a huge voice. His intimidating stature was just the opposite of his personality.
He was known to be kind and honest in his dealings, which was why people were mostly referred to him whenever the trouble with their phones became too much.
Amaka was one of such people referred to this gentleman.
For Ejyke Communications, it was love at first sight. He loved Amaka and was willing to do anything for her.
Unfortunately for him, Amaka was my girlfriend and she politely told him that she had a boyfriend. He didn’t collect money from Amaka but collected her number instead.
From that day onwards, a week hardly goes by without him calling Amaka.
It’s been almost one year since then when we found ourselves between the Devil and the Deep blue Sea, and needed a Deu Ex machina to come to the rescue.
It was at that point that his call came in and he received the usual “I am with my boyfriend” response.
It was at that point that we remembered that Ejike could readily afford that one million naira that would solve all our problems.
He had on several occasions sent recharge cards to my babe Amaka and offered to buy her gifts which she would always turn down.
Now, going to ask for his help would be a take a lot of pride swallowing.
We decided not to go. So we continued looking for other solutions until it was the deadline day for submission of forms and still, nothing was happening.
At that point, we didn’t know what else to do. So for the very first time, Amaka picked her phone and called Ejike.
Unfortunately, Ejike was not in his shop. He had sustained a serious injury on his left leg when he went to buy a land and mistakenly stepped on a sharp stud.
Though he said it wasn’t that serious, just that it wouldn’t be okay to walk around the market with it.
This prompted Amaka going to his house to know how he was doing and use the opportunity to tell him about the money.
Amaka stayed less than 2 hours and returned, breaking the good news that Ejike had accepted to give us the loan, interest free!
Just that we must make sure we pay back once we sell the faculty receipts.
Like play like joke, I received alert of 500k, Amaka received alert of 500k. That was because our students accounts weren’t enough to hold upto one million naira.
We quickly rushed and made the payments, submitted the forms, then called for a meeting of our campaign council that night.
We were finally back in business. It’s time to win this election!
How did the election finally go?
Let’s find out in the next episode.
