“…Mma was sobbing at the other end of the phone. I have come to love her too much, even more than I love myself, I presume.
It was attraction at first sight the first day I saw her at Peace Park Enugu on our way to Camp. It’s not just her attractive body but her beautiful heart and soul that has tied me down to her since nearly 4 years.
I have loved before but none was this close. It was just unreal. Not minding my financial status and all, she had love me beyond measure.
So hearing her cry was akin to an arrow piercing my heart. It took some minutes of calming her down before she could tell me what the problem was.
Apparently, she had turned down several suitors but the one that came this time around was rich, neat, young, well behaved, humble and handsome. Plus he’s from their community.
One of the worthy sons of the community who studied in the UK through a scholarship and was working at the Federal Medical Center, Abuja.
There was really no fault to be found. He is the person every parent in Mma’s village encourage their children to emulate.
At that point, everyone in Mma’s family was on her neck to accept his marriage proposal, as it would be good for her, and good for the image of the family and good for her future.
After Mma had narrated everything to me. I was numb. I didn’t know what to say. Apparently, there was really nothing to say.
What could I say in such a situation when I am literally being fed by another man. In reality, I do not even have an apartment of my own. How do I compete with such a man, especially when Mma herself confessed that he is handsome?
All the cards were stacked against me. It was just for someone to shout CHECKMATE!
For some minutes, I was unable to say anything. And like a dim of light in a dark night, I heard, “but it’s you I love and it’s you that I want”.
I said “mhm?”. She replied, “we need to do something very fast, else it will not be my fault and if I am unhappy for the rest of my life, just know that you caused it”. She cut the phone immediately.
I was in a dilemma. I didn’t know what to do. I had to go and meet Evangelist Nduka Obi, my spiritual father.
