“…Chukwuma was my friend from back in the day. We were primary school classmates and secondary school classmates, though we separated when I went to the Arts class and he proceeded to the sciences.

After our first JAMB attempt was futile, he got admission on second trial, this time, to ESUT, where he studied Engineering and I had to wait extra year.

Engineering in Esut was a 5 year course, so we both graduated at the same time and did our NYSC at the same time, but unlike me, his NYSC plug didn’t fail him, so he served in his home state, which is Enugu.

After spending a few weeks with my family in Nsukka, it was obvious from everybody’s body language that I should go out and either look for a job or start a business.

At that point, my #39,800 was already remaining #30,000. Of course I had to buy a few gifts for my mom, dad and siblings to celebrate my POP, then transport, recharge card, etc.

The reality that another Allawee won’t be coming hit me real hard.

That was when I moved to Enugu to squat with Chukwuma in his one bedroom self contained apartment.

Before going, I had already prepared my CV with facts, half-truths, and total lies about myself, including the pure lie that I had the ability to work under pressure, and that reading was my hobby. Gị na onye?🙄

I created a Linkedin profile where I told glorious tales about my academic and business exploits. I ensured that I bloated Duke Oil and Gas to look like it was the biggest Oil company, East of the Niger.

I applied for several jobs and was then waiting for my luck, make God butter my bread and sugar my tea.

Before then, I have been hearing about MMM and how it was paying people. I wasn’t interested chiefly because one needed 20k + to register and my Allawee was 19,800 which was usually half spent before it comes in.

So, the poor man ignores the adverts about luxurious duplexes, not because he doesn’t like them but because he knows he can’t afford any of them.

However, now that I had 30k, I could afford to register, but that 30k was like all my life and future depended on it.

It was that period that Chukwuma’s girlfriend came with the news of ULTIMATE CYCLER!

DUKE THE NIGERIAN
(LOOKING FOR A JOB, Season 6; Episode 1) was brought to you by Ugwuagbo Emmanuel Chizoba Daniel (Zoba De Great)
