WHY DO DIASPORANS DISCOURAGE NIGERIANS FROM RELOCATING ABROAD?

Why is it that most Nigerians that relocated abroad are warning the rest not to Japa because its not easy over there?

When they issue these warnings, one begins to wonder if it’s in Nigeria that it is easy.

While it’s not easy over there, the truth is that it’s not easy down here too. As a matter of fact, it’s not easy down here at all, which is why there are more young Nigerians that want to relocate to overseas than those who want to come back home.

In recent times, I found myself in that fix too, on whether to travel or not to travel and here are my thoughts.

As a graduate or an undergraduate or a normal working class or jobless Nigerian who neither has very rich parents/relatives to cater for you and the job you are doing does not bring in 500k or more per month, your best bet is to travel abroad at any slightest opportunity you see.

On the other hand, if you are a successful business man who makes atleast a profit of 500k to 1 million monthly, or you are a big working class man or woman who earns 500k and above monthly, your best bet is to stay in Nigeria and expand your coast.

The reason is because, if you earn less than 500k per month in Nigeria, you are a poor man or woman.

What this means is that you won’t have the ability to live in a comfortable apartment, have access to 24/7 light and water, live in a secured environment (ESTATE), send your children to reputable schools, feed comfortably, drive a good care and afford quality healthcare for yourself and your family.

In the current economy, a monthly income of below 500k cannot afford it. However traveling outside Nigeria will give you access to all these and more.

However, if you are already making more than that, and living a comfortable life here in Nigeria, traveling outside will become difficult for you for the following reasons;

1. Outside Nigeria, you will not have much free time. You will work very hard for every penny you earn. Unlike here that you will have a 9-5 job and come to work by 12noon and dismiss by 3pm and still get full salary with bonuses. No. It’s not going to happen there.

2. Outside Nigeria, to chop life and enjoy life won’t be that cheap because you earn as much as you spend. 50k here is enough to take one to a joint, kill chicken and catfish, eat abacha and ụgba, then drink to stupor and go home. 45 pounds won’t do that for you.

3. Starting up businesses and growing them are a lot easier here than abroad. We have the population here, poor rules and poor regulations, little and disorganized tax system, etc. All of which makes starting and growing businesses here easier than abroad.

4. Taxation: Most Western countries will tax your income heavily, some upto 40%. In Nigeria, 7.5% VAT and other taxes are hardly paid. Ị ga akụrụ ya na ọkpọ before anyone agrees to pay.

There are other reasons, but the bottom line is that if you are rich or atleast above the poverty line, Nigeria will favour you. Nigeria is the best for you.

If you are still struggling to make ends meet, the earlier you run away from Nigeria, the better. NIGERIA is not for you! Go abroad and suffer.

The major difference is that when you suffer abroad, you suffer with assurance, good pay, quality life, job and life security, good and serene environment, etc, but when you suffer in Nigeria, you suffer hopelessly, helplessly and dejectedly. Infact, e don be for you.
